New Permit Reveals A Backstage Parking Lot Coming To Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

Something is taking shape behind the scenes at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Disney has filed a new permit for a backstage parking lot at the water park, a filing that could ease a longstanding parking crunch and has some fans wondering whether bigger plans are on the horizon.

What The Permit Reveals

The permit, filed with the South Florida Water Management District and titled “Typhoon Lagoon Backstage Parking Lot,” covers a backstage area behind the water park near Crush ‘n’ Gusher. According to the filing, the project includes a new roadway and gate leading to a fenced-in gravel lot, a sidewalk, and a stormwater management system with two dry retention ponds and drainage swales. Because it is a backstage lot, it will most likely serve cast members, which could in turn free up the existing cast parking area for guests. Typhoon Lagoon’s guest parking frequently fills to capacity during peak season, sending visitors to overflow and grass parking, so additional capacity would be a welcome fix. Disney has made no public statement about broader plans, and some observers have noted the timing could line up with a possible announcement at D23 next month, though that remains speculation.

Timing Lines Up With The September Closure

The permit’s timing is notable, as Typhoon Lagoon is confirmed to close on September 9 for its seasonal refurbishment. Disney typically alternates seasonal closures between its two water parks, with Blizzard Beach staying open while Typhoon Lagoon undergoes its work, though both parks have run simultaneously this summer as part of the Cool Kids’ Summer promotion. Construction executed during the closure window would allow crews to work without impacting the guest experience. Disney has not announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon after its September closure.

Disney has not announced any guest facing additions tied to the permit, but we will keep watching for additional filings as the September closure approaches.
