The Force is strong with anime fans this week. Lucasfilm has officially released the trailer and key art for Star Wars: Visions Presents The Ninth Jedi, revealing that the highly anticipated limited series will premiere August 5 exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu.
The Trailer Debuts At Anime Expo
The trailer premiered during a special panel at Anime Expo 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where attendees also got to screen the first episode. Supervising director Kenji Kamiyama, director Shunsuke Tada, and producer Hitoshi Ito were on hand to introduce the series alongside Lucasfilm executive producers. Here’s the trailer:
Kara’s Journey Continues
The eight-episode series from Lucasfilm and Production I.G is the first release under the new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, which Lucasfilm is using for longer-form stories spun out of its acclaimed anthology. The Ninth Jedi picks up shortly after the events of the Visions shorts “The Ninth Jedi” and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” following Lah Kara as she continues her Jedi training under Margrave Juro while their small fellowship embarks on a quest to save her missing father, all while evading Jedi Hunters in a distant future where lightsabers have become nearly extinct.
A Stacked Voice Cast
The English dub cast brings back Kimiko Glenn as Lah Kara and Andrew Kishino as Juro, joined by Masi Oka, Patrick Seitz, JP Karliak, and Simu Liu as Lah Zhima. Mitsuyasu Sakai writes the series, with Kamiyama, who created the original shorts, supervising. It caps a big stretch for Star Wars on screens of every size following this spring’s theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, and arrives as anticipation builds for even more announcements, like the growing slate of new Disney+ series in development. Both original Ninth Jedi shorts are streaming now on Disney+.
