Magic Kingdom’s log flume is coming off the board for the holidays. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will close on Monday, November 2 for its first full refurbishment since opening, and it takes its two adjacent shops with it. Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s Bayou General close on the same day.
The Frontierland flume opened on June 28, 2024 in the former Splash Mountain structure and has never had an extended refurbishment closure. Disney has not given a reason for this one, and has not posted a reopening date on the calendar either. December is the expectation. Guests with November trips should plan around the flume being unavailable, and December visitors should not assume it returns on the first of the month.
November Is Early For This Kind Of Work
The timing is the most interesting part of the announcement. Water rides at Walt Disney World typically go down in January or February, when crowds thin out and a soaking is least welcome. November does the opposite, opening one of the busiest stretches of the year with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party running at Magic Kingdom on select nights.
The likeliest explanation is reliability. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has had repeated stretches of unusual downtime and early closures since it opened, including shortened hours during a cold snap earlier this year, and several of its Audio-Animatronics figures have spent long periods still or moving at reduced range. A multi-week closure is the first real chance Disney has had to get at those problems instead of working around them overnight.
The Railroad Goes Down First, And Comes Back First
The park’s other fall closure arrives sooner and ends before the flume’s begins. The Walt Disney World Railroad is closed September 28 through October 29, with the train back October 30, four days before Tiana’s shuts down. Disney has not explained that one either, and the closure covers the whole attraction rather than a single station.
Worth remembering is that the railroad has not run its full loop since July 7, 2025, when Disney switched it to shuttle mode to clear the Frontierland track for the Cars and Villains Land construction. Since then the train has run back and forth between the Main Street, U.S.A. station and the Storybook Circus station in Fantasyland, roughly five minutes each way, skipping Frontierland entirely. The full loop returns once the new lands open, with no date attached, so expect the shuttle again when the train comes back in late October.
One geographic note for West Coast readers: the November closure is the Magic Kingdom version only. Disneyland’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opened on November 15, 2024, is not affected and remains on a normal operating schedule. Magic Kingdom guests who cannot wait for the bayou can find the same story running at full capacity in Bayou Country in California, where the ride has made headlines of its own this summer.
