Monorail Red Is Back At Disneyland After Months Out Of Rotation

The Disneyland Monorail

Disneyland Monorail Red is back in service. The red train was carrying guests again on October 16 for the first time in months, and it showed up after a stretch earlier this week when Disneyland was running only Monorail Orange while Monorail Blue had mechanical issues.

A Rough Year For Monorail Red

Red had a rough start to the year. It was one of the trains stranded when the monorail lost power on January 8, and the Anaheim Fire Department had to evacuate its guests. The next day it was parked at the Tomorrowland station, and later it was towed through Disney California Adventure.

The whole monorail later closed for refurbishment on March 30 and reopened on May 1.

Three Trains In The Fleet

The Disneyland Monorail runs three Mark VII trains: Red, Blue and Orange. Red was the first of the three, entering guest service on July 3, 2008, with Blue following later that year and Orange in 2009.

The trains travel between the Tomorrowland station inside Disneyland Park and the Downtown Disney station, and you need valid Disneyland Park admission to ride. The monorail gives you another way into the park from Downtown Disney without going through the main entrance, which is handy while construction is changing how guests arrive at the Esplanade.

You can find the current hours on the Disneyland Monorail’s attraction page. If you are coming in from the east side, our look at the Toy Story lot shuttle drop-off moving toward Harbor Boulevard covers the other big change to how guests get into the parks.
