The Pirates of the Caribbean immersive show coming to London has found its Captain Jack Sparrow. Olivier Award winner George Maguire will play Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure, the Secret Cinema and TodayTix production opening next year on the Greenwich Peninsula. The run has also been extended by six weeks because of ticket demand.
Maguire won his Olivier playing Dave Davies of The Kinks in the musical Sunny Afternoon, and his screen work includes Prime Suspect and Borgia.
Phil Daniels, known for Quadrophenia, EastEnders and Blur’s “Parklife,” will play Captain Barbossa. His film credits include Chicken Run and Scum. Lily Blunsom will play Elizabeth Swann, Harrison Wilde will play Will Turner and Gleanne Purcell-Brown will play Anamaria. Matt Costain, also an Olivier winner, is directing. More cast members will be announced later.
How The Show Works
Live performance drives the story, with selected clips from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl used alongside large set pieces. During the show, which runs about two hours and 15 minutes, audience members can explore the sets, meet characters and take part in the plot. The show also features stunts and a live band.
“We’ve taken everything Secret Cinema does best and pushed it further than ever before, creating a new kind of theatrical experience where the story doesn’t just happen in front of you – it happens all around you,” said Merritt Baer, Secret Cinema’s artistic director.
The production is licensed through Disney Theatrical Group. “Secret Cinema has assembled a remarkable team to create an experience that is both artistically ambitious and wonderfully entertaining,” said Angelo Desimini, the group’s senior vice president of licensed partnerships and brand management. Secret Cinema has worked with Disney franchises before, staging Guardians of the Galaxy: The Live Experience and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
Dates And Venue
Previews start February 16, 2027, and the official opening is March 10. Pirates will be the first show at Secret Cinema’s new riverside venue on the Greenwich Peninsula, which the company plans to keep as its long-term home. The show was first announced as a 10-week run, so the extension brings it to 16 weeks.
For Disney fans who know Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean rides, the show trades the boat for a walk among the crew of the Black Pearl.
