Disneyland’s Upstairs Jungle Cruise Queue Gets A Belt-Driven Fan System

Jungle Cruise boats at Disneyland

Guests waiting in the upstairs Jungle Cruise queue at Disneyland now have a new way of keeping cool overhead. A belt-driven fan system was recently installed in that part of the line, replacing the off-the-shelf fans that were there before, according to TustinRaider, who regularly photographs construction and refurbishment work around the Disneyland Resort and shared a short video of the setup on Thursday.

Look Up In The Rafters

The new system lives up in the ceiling. TustinRaider’s clip, less than 10 seconds long, pans across the dark wooden rafters of the covered queue, past the heavy timber beams and the hanging lantern-style lights, to where the belt-driven setup now runs. With a belt-driven system, the fans are turned by belts rather than each one running as a separate plug-in unit.

It is a small detail, but it suits a queue themed to an old jungle river outpost better than the standard store-bought fans that used to handle the job. Regulars who spend time in that upstairs line on hot afternoons are the ones most likely to notice the difference.

TustinRaider posted it as the latest entry in a running “slightly aged” post theme, a series of posts on small changes around the park. Earlier in the week, he was also the one who spotted Figaro missing from his perch at Fantasy Faire.

A Queue Shared With Indiana Jones

The upstairs Jungle Cruise queue shares space with the line for Indiana Jones Adventure, which closed for refurbishment in September and is scheduled to reopen on October 23. TustinRaider suggested the two projects might be related. Disney has not said anything about the fans or about any work in the shared queue, so for now that connection is his read on the timing rather than anything official. Disney also has not detailed what the Indiana Jones refurbishment covered, beyond the reopening date.

Guests heading into that queue this week, whether they are lining up for a boat or for the Temple of the Forbidden Eye once it reopens, may pass under the new setup. Out on the river, the Jungle Cruise still sends its skippers past the hippos and elephants, so the fans are the change to watch for before boarding.
