Hexed Official Trailer Reveals Billie’s Mom Has Been Blocking Her Magic With A Purple Gem

The official trailer for Hexed is here, and it reveals a family secret: Billie’s mother has been blocking her daughter’s magic with a purple gem on her wrist. Walt Disney Animation Studios released the new look on Monday morning, a little more than six weeks before the film opens in theaters on November 25.

What The Trailer Shows

Hexed follows Billie Doe, an impulsive and unconventional teenager voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. In the trailer, her cautious mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, has kept Billie’s powers dormant with the gem. That stops working when Billie accidentally opens a portal to Hexe, a vast realm of witches, and Alice has to go in after her.

Walton Goggins narrates the trailer as Beef Roger Crummchuk, a green, three-eyed cat who becomes Billie’s reluctant teacher. One of their first lessons costs the family a microwave.

Queen Celeste, voiced by Jodie Foster, wants Billie captured, and Beef’s narration points to a prophecy about an ordinary girl who becomes an extraordinary witch. The whole trailer is set to Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun.”

Disney posted the trailer with a simple pitch, “A world of witches is calling,” and its synopsis says Billie and Alice uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.

Meet Beef And Queen Celeste

This is the first full trailer since Disney added two big names to the cast. When the teaser arrived in June, Steinfeld, Jones, Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry were the only voices announced. Goggins and Foster joined them at D23 in August.

Disney describes Beef as a reclusive, magical cat who forges an uneasy alliance with Billie and Alice once they reach Hexe.

Foster, a two-time Academy Award winner, plays Queen Celeste as a sinister figure who will stop at nothing to hold on to her power over Hexe.

Ullman and Fry play two of the realm’s magical objects. Ullman is Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen, and Fry is Elias Quire, a magical journal.

More Hexed Tonight On Monday Night Football

Hexed will be in front of a football audience tonight, too. Disney Animation has promised an exclusive look at the film during Monday Night Football, when the Buffalo Bills visit the Los Angeles Rams on ABC and ESPN. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.

When Hexed Opens

Hexed opens exclusively in theaters on Wednesday, November 25, the day before Thanksgiving. It is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th animated feature and the studio’s first original film since Wish in 2023, following the sequels Moana 2 and Zootopia 2.

“Hexe is a place where Billie begins to feel seen for the first time in her life,” director Jason Hand said when the teaser was released. “She embarks on a journey of self-discovery that reveals a powerful connection to magic, and in the process uncovers long-held secrets about her family.”

Hand directs the film with Fawn Veerasunthorn, and Josie Trinidad is co-director. Roy Conli and Yvett Merino produce. The film is written by Jared Bush, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer, and Dana Ledoux Miller.
