Disney Cruise Line just announced a significant change to its alcohol policy, and it takes effect very soon. Starting June 3, 2026, guests across the entire fleet will follow a tightened set of rules for bringing alcohol onboard at embarkation.
Here is everything you need to know before your next sailing.
What Changed With the Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy
Under the revised policy, guests 21 and older can bring a maximum of one bottle of unopened wine or sparkling wine (no larger than 750ml) or one six-pack of beer (no larger than 12 ounces per can or bottle) in carry-on bags at the beginning of the voyage.
That represents a reduction from the previous allowance. Until now, Disney Cruise Line permitted guests to bring two bottles of wine or champagne, making this new rule a notable cutback for guests who typically stocked their stateroom for a multi-night sailing.
However, there is a small piece of good news on the cost side. The corkage fee for consuming your own wine or sparkling wine in a dining room has been lowered by $9, dropping to $20 per bottle.
Key Rules to Know Before You Pack
The updated policy comes with several important details guests should keep in mind.
All alcohol brought onboard must be in an original, unopened container. Partially used bottles or any container with a broken seal are prohibited. Any wine or sparkling wine beyond one bottle, or beer beyond six cans or bottles, must be discarded before boarding. Disney Cruise Line will not offer compensation for items that are removed or discarded.
Also worth noting: alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed with no compensation offered, and guests have experienced damage to their belongings as a result of having beverage containers in checked bags.
Therefore, make sure any alcohol you plan to bring is in your carry-on bag only.
What About Alcohol Purchased at Port?
This is another area where the new policy creates a change. All alcohol, including liquors, spirits, wine, and beer purchased at ports of call, will be collected and stored until the end of the cruise. Guests must retrieve stored alcohol at the end of the voyage, as any unclaimed items will be discarded with no compensation offered.
That applies broadly to all purchases made while ashore, not just spirits.
Where Can You Drink Your Own Alcohol Onboard?
Alcohol brought onboard cannot be consumed in any lounge or public area. Guests are limited to enjoying their own wine or beer in their stateroom, unless they bring it to a dining room and pay the corkage fee.
Because onboard bars and lounges operate normally, guests can still order drinks throughout the ship. Alcohol service at venues across the fleet, such as Nightingale’s and the Rose on the Disney Wish or O’Gills Pub on the Disney Fantasy, is expected to continue as usual.
When Does the New Policy Take Effect?
The updated alcohol rules apply to sailings departing on or after June 3, 2026. If your cruise departs before that date, the previous policy applies to your sailing.
Disney Cruise Line notes that its alcohol policy is subject to change without notice, so it is always a good idea to check the official DCL FAQ before you set sail.
