Magic: The Gathering is heading to the mystical side of Marvel next. During its New York Comic Con panel on Friday, Wizards of the Coast revealed Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, a new set built around Doctor Strange, Thor, Hela and Dormammu that releases April 9, 2027. Preorders are already open.

Darkhold Destiny is the third Marvel set in Magic’s Universes Beyond line under the multiyear deal between the two companies. This one tells an original story set in the Marvel Universe, and it takes its name from the Darkhold, the forbidden book Marvel’s greatest sorcerers conspired to keep sealed.

A New Story Across Nearly 30 Dimensions

Wizards describes the set as a dimension-hopping adventure that unfolds across nearly 30 dimensions, with players teaming up with Marvel’s gods and digging into the secrets of the Dark Dimension. Expect werewolves, vampires and witches alongside the big four, and Magik makes the jump into the set through her stepping disks.

The story also introduces a brand-new character created by the Magic team. Readers can meet that character first in a Marvel comic from Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, which arrives digitally in February 2027 and in print in April, the same month the cards hit shelves. Commander decks, Scene Boxes and new Booster Fun treatments are also part of the release.

A Doctor Doom Card For Avengers: Doomsday

Moviegoers have a card to chase before then. Fans who see Avengers: Doomsday on its opening weekend in Infinity Vision at Regal Cinemas will get an exclusive Magic card featuring Doctor Doom, Variety reported. Doomsday opens in theaters December 18.

Doom is getting more than one card, too. Wizards also promoted Doomsdrop at the panel, a collection released in several drops that will mostly spotlight the Marvel villain, with other guests from the Marvel Universe mixed in.

Marvel’s History Of Heroes Lands First

Collectors who do not want to wait until spring have something sooner. Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Marvel’s History of Heroes goes on sale November 2 at 9 a.m. PT for $199.99. The limited-edition kit holds 30 cards illustrated by more than 30 artists, celebrating famous moments from Marvel comics history, from the Fantastic Four gaining their powers from cosmic rays to Iron Man’s first appearance with Ho Yinsen and Jean Grey becoming the Phoenix.

Marvel and Magic have been busy partners. When the Marvel Super Heroes set launched, the Disney Store in Times Square hosted a launch event for it, and Darkhold Destiny now gives fans of Marvel’s magic users a set of their own.
