The wait is almost over. After more than three years away from Disney+, Ahsoka Tano is finally returning to a galaxy far, far away, and this time, the stakes are higher than ever.
Ahsoka Season 2 will arrive on Disney+ in early 2027, with the news announced by star Rosario Dawson herself during Disney’s upfront presentation. “This season, the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher,” Dawson told the audience. Disney also unveiled a sneak peek at the upcoming season featuring creator Dave Filoni and members of the cast discussing the making of the new episodes.
Where We Left Off
The Season 1 finale, which aired in October 2023, saw Grand Admiral Thrawn make the jump to hyperspace via a space loop, with Ezra Bridger stowing away aboard, while Ahsoka and Sabine were left stranded in the green tundra of Peridea in a galaxy far, far away. Ahsoka Season 2 will pick up directly from that cliffhanger with no time jump, meaning fans will be right back in the thick of it from the very first episode.
The Cast Returns, With One Major Change
Rosario Dawson returns in the lead role for Ahsoka Season 2, joined by the returning ensemble cast. Hayden Christensen is back as Anakin Skywalker, a move that makes considerable sense given the deeply complex bond between Ahsoka and her former Jedi Master. Natasha Liu Bordizzo returns as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The most significant casting change involves the role of Baylan Skoll. Game of Thrones star Rory McCann steps in to play the former Jedi following the passing of Ray Stevenson, and by all accounts the production has embraced the recasting wholeheartedly. Shin Hati actress Ivanna Sakhno praised McCann during filming, saying he “couldn’t have been anyone better to take on this role.”
Admiral Ackbar is also confirmed to return, with Filoni teasing that he “goes head-to-head with Thrawn.”
What to Expect
Dave Filoni wrote all eight episodes of Ahsoka Season 2 and will direct several of them, with Bryce Dallas Howard, Jennifer Getzinger, and Anders Engström helming others. The season is expected to push forward several major MandoVerse storylines, including Grand Admiral Thrawn’s campaign against the New Republic, a potential reunion of the Ghost Crew, and the mystery surrounding Baylan Skoll’s quest to uncover the secrets of the Mortis Gods.
Jon Favreau described Ahsoka Season 2 as operating at a “higher level” of Star Wars storytelling, dealing with officers and the broader galactic picture rather than the ground-level perspective of a show like The Mandalorian and Grogu.
A Record-Breaking Wait
The early 2027 premiere window means Ahsoka Season 2 will have set a record for the longest gap between entries in the MandoVerse, a saga that began with The Mandalorian back in 2019. It has been over 473 days since the last MandoVerse project, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, premiered on December 2, 2024, and the wait since Season 1 of Ahsoka itself stretches back to late 2023.
But if Filoni’s ambitions are any indication, fans will find the wait worthwhile. The series is widely expected to serve as one of the key connective threads leading into a larger MandoVerse crossover event, meaning what happens in early 2027 could shape the future of Star Wars storytelling for years to come.
Ahsoka Season 2 premieres in early 2027, exclusively on Disney+.
