Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie made a trip of their own this week — to NASA. According to Laughing Place, the Toy Story characters recently visited NASA, taking the franchise’s motto of going “to infinity and beyond” to its most literal expression yet ahead of Toy Story 5‘s theatrical release.
Toy Story And Space: A Natural Connection
Buzz Lightyear has always been the character most closely associated with space exploration in the Toy Story universe. As a Space Ranger whose catchphrase has become one of the most recognizable in all of popular culture, having Buzz — alongside Woody and Jessie — visit an actual NASA facility is the kind of promotional moment that feels genuinely fitting rather than forced. The visit gives the characters a real-world context that resonates with the spirit of adventure and exploration that has always defined the franchise.
Disney and Pixar have a long history of partnering with NASA and scientific organizations around film releases. The original Buzz Lightyear toy famously traveled to the International Space Station in 2008, spending more than a year aboard the ISS before returning to Earth. That connection between the franchise and real space exploration has been a thread running through Toy Story‘s cultural life for nearly three decades.
Toy Story 5 In Theaters Now
Toy Story 5 opened in theaters on June 19, 2026, to some of the best reviews Pixar has received in years. Early reactions called it a worthy successor to Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, and Taylor Swift’s original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The film’s promotional campaign has been one of the most expansive in Pixar history, spanning airline liveries, restaurant pop-ups, theme park character debuts, and now a visit to NASA.
